2005 Oldham County Population Estimates

Oldham County Population Estimates Released March 16, 2006:  Population as of July 1, 2005 Exceeds 53,500

The Census Bureau released the 2005 County Population Estimates on Thursday, March 26, 2006.  The Oldham County population grew by an estimated 2.8 percent or 1,452 people from July 1, 2004 to July 1, 2005.  Since 2000, the population has increased by an estimated 7,355 persons (15.9 percent). 

The data released by the Census Bureau and available on the Kentucky State Data Center website (http://ksdc.louisville.edu/kpr/popest/est.htm) reflect that Oldham County remains the 16th most populated county of the Commonwealth's 120 counties.  The county was ranked 20th in 2000.

Additionally, the data indicate that Oldham County remains the 4th fastest growing county in Kentucky since the 2,000 census in the percentage increase of population (15.9 percent) and has risen from forth to third in numeric increase (7,355 persons).

The data also indicate that Oldham County's estimated population growth of 7,355 from 2000 to 2005 was the highest of any county with a population less than 100,000 in the state.  The county's estimated numeric growth was only 213 persons less than the numeric growth of Fayette County and has exceeded Jefferson County’s numeric increase by 1,132 during that time frame.  The top ten Kentucky counties in terms of numeric growth since 2000 are depicted below:

While the percentage increase in population is not as great as the county experienced during the 1990's, the yearly numeric increases exceed those in the 1990s and have averaged 1,450 persons the past three years.  If recent trends continue, the county will likely exceed 60,000 persons when the 2010 census is conducted.
