OLDHAM AHEAD PUBLIC OPINION POLL SHOWS

RESIDENTS WANT SOLUTIONS FOR GROWTH ISSUES

Oldham Ahead, a non-profit citizens’ group advocating wise land use and beneficial  economic development, held a press conference Jan. 8, 2002 to release a public opinion survey on quality of life and land-use planning issues in Oldham County.

The survey, conducted by Horizon Research International of Louisville, included 400 Oldham County residents and has a 95 percent confidence level. It provides feedback on issues critical to decision makers as the county considers a new comprehensive plan, school overcrowding, a real estate transfer tax and other initiatives.

The poll found, among other things,  the majority of Oldham County residents think:

·       Residential growth is happening too quickly.

·       Rapid growth is threatening the county’s natural and historic resources.

·       Maintaining the quality of public schools is the county’s most important issue.

·       New development should be directed where schools, roads, utilities and services are already in place rather than in undeveloped rural areas
