Nation-wide, Oldham County’s percentage growth since 2000 was ranked 177th of the nation’s 3,141 counties (top six percent). Its numeric estimated growth was ranked 411th from 2000-2006. Since 2000, the population has increased by an estimated 9,107 persons (19.7 percent) realizing a significant numeric and percentage increase from 2005 to 2006. The 2006 gain of 1,826 represents a 22 percent increase over the net gain of 1,439 from 2004-2005. Overall, the county is growing an average of 3.1 percent each year since 2000.
Note: The official 2000 Census population for Oldham County was 46,178 as of 1 April 2000. However, there was an undercount in the western edge of the county that was adjusted to 46,618 to serve as an estimate base for out-year calculations. The data, available on the Census Bureau website (www.census.gov), reflect that Oldham County remains the 16th most populated county of the Commonwealth's 120 counties. The county was ranked 20th in 2000. Additionally, the data indicate that Oldham County is the 4th fastest growing county in Kentucky since the 2000 census in the percentage increase of population (19.7 percent) and is 4th in net numeric increase (9,107 persons). The Table below reflects the 10 fastest growing counties in Kentucky since 2000 in terms of percentage increase.
The data also indicate that Oldham County's estimated population growth of 9,107 from 2000 to 2006 was the second highest in the Commonwealth of any county with a population less than 100,000 (Bullitt County has gained 11,615 since 2000). The county's estimated numeric growth was only 1,170 persons less than the numeric growth of Fayette County and has exceeded Jefferson County’s numeric increase by 1,211 during that time frame. The top ten Kentucky counties in terms of numeric growth since 2000 are depicted below:
While the percentage increase in population is not as great as the county experienced during the 1990's, the yearly numeric increases exceed those in the 1990s and have averaged 1,565 persons the past three years. If recent trends continue, the county will likely exceed 61,000 persons when the 2010 census is conducted. The Oldham County population increased by 12,915 persons from 1990 to 2000 and is on track to exceed 14-15,000 persons during the first decade of the 21st century. Oldham County’s estimated population is greatly exceeding Census Bureau population projections from which the 2002 County Comprehensive Plan was partly based. The 2010 population projection for the county reflected in Table 2.4 of Outlook 2020, Oldham County Comprehensive Plan, was 57,004. Based on current trends, the county’s population has reached that already, which will likely be validated by the 2007 population estimates to be released in March 2008. The 2020 population projection for the county was 62,986. The county will most likely reach that figure by 2011. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
